Itinerary of 3 Days Tour Marrakech to Merzouga
Kindly review our 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga Desert program to gain insights into what you can expect during this 3 days/2 nights desert adventure.
Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Dades Valley
The 3-day tour Marrakech Merzouga Desert will begin as early as possible with a pick up from your hotel, riad, or hostel in Marrakech city.
First, we will leave the red city of Marrakech and head toward Boumalne Dades, enjoying the panoramic views while crossing the High Atlas Mountain range. Along the way, we will make a short stop outside the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah in a panoramic view before entering and visiting the Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site fortified since the 11th century.
This site is famous for being the filming location of several world movies such as The Mummy, The Message, Gladiator, and the American TV series Game of Thrones.
After strolling and climbing to the top of the Kasbah to enjoy a panoramic view of the entire place, we continue our adventure to Ouarzazate. This city in southern Morocco gets its name from the Tamazight Language, meaning “without noise” or “noiseless.” Often called the “Gateway to the Desert” and the “Hollywood of Africa,” Ouarzazate plays a significant role in film production and offers a glimpse into the city’s cinematic history.
Next, we head toward Boumalne Dades through Skoura Oasis, known for its palm groves and traditional kasbahs. We also pass through the Valley of Roses in Kalaat M’gouna, famous for its annual rose festival in the first week of May, attracting visitors from all over the world.
Finally, we reach the Dades Gorges and spend the night amidst the spectacular rock formations.
Day 2: Dades Gorges - Todra Gorges - Merzouga Desert
After breakfast, we leave Boumalne Dades and head toward the Erg Chebbi desert in Merzouga. First, we will pause to stroll around the dramatic Todra Gorge, with its towering canyon walls of 300 meters, an ideal place for nature lovers and rock climbers.
Next, we will stop where you can have an opportunity to wear traditional Amazigh (Berber) clothes for photos. After having free time for lunch in Touroug, we will head toward the different and best part of Morocco Merzouga’s breathtaking dunes through El Jorf and Erfoud.
Finally, we arrive at Merzouga village, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes, in the afternoon to begin our camel ride into the heart of the desert. Enjoy the quietness of being in the middle of nowhere and watch a beautiful sunset from one of the highest dunes.
After the sunset, we continue the camel ride to the desert camp, where you will be welcomed with a cup of mint tea, some sweets, and your private tent. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner under a starry sky, with traditional Berber drums around the campfire, creating unforgettable memories.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert - Ouarzazate - Marrakech
A new day begins with the beautiful sunrise of the lively desert, bringing joy to your heart. After breakfast, ride the camel back to Merzouga village, then leave the stunning Sahara desert and head toward Marrakech.
We will stop at the Draa Valley, one of the longest rivers in Morocco, which starts in the High Atlas Mountains and ends in the Atlantic Ocean. It is famous for its lush date palm trees that provide water for the agricultural fields.
After lunch, we continue toward Ouarzazate, passing through ancient fortified villages known as Ksours and historic Kasbahs.
