Itinerary of 4 Days Desert Trip from Marrakech to Fes:
Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Boumalne Dades
The Journey from Marrakech to Fes starts at 8:00 AM from your hotel, riad or hostel. First, the adventure begins with a scenic drive through the High Atlas Mountain range that offers panoramic views of the Amazigh villages that are located at the edge of the Mountains.
Next, the first stop will be at panoramic viewpoint to enjoy fabulous views over the Mountains. Furhermore, a visit one of the Berber women’s cooperatives (optional) to see the step-by-step techniques of producing Argan Oil (from seed to a valuable oil) derived from the kernels of the argan tree in Morocco.
Moreover, the tour continue to visit the UNESCO-listed historic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, where several movies such as Queen of Arabia, Kingdom of Heaven, and the British documentary A Life On Our Planet. In addition, TV series like Game of Thrones, season 4 of the American Series Outer Banks as well as the Brazilian telenovela O’clone.
After strolling in the narrow street of the Kasbah and climbing up to the top, we continue on to Ouarzazate city, its name comes from Tamazight Language, means noiseless or without confusion, often referred the “Hollywood of Africa” thanks to its significant role in the film production.

Day 2: Dades Valley - Merzouga - Overnight in the Desert
After breakfast in the hotel, we leave Boumalne Dades and head toward the best part of the tour Merzouga desert.
Furthermore, a stop will be made to wear the traditional Amazigh (Berber) clothes for photos. After free time for lunch in Touroug village, we pass through El Jorf, Erfoud toward the different and best part of Morocco.
Finally, arrive in Merzouga village, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes, next start the camel ride to the middle of the desert, enjoying the calm atmosphere of being in the middle of nowhere and contemplating a fabulous sunset in one of the highest dunes.
After the sunset, continue to the desert camp where you will be welcomed with a cup of tea and your private tent.
Then, savor a traditional Morrocan dinner under a sky full of stars, join the Berber drums around the campfire, and watch the shooting stars in the middle of the desert.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert - Nomads - Khamlia village
A fabulous thing to start the day is to wake up early morning to witness the vibrant sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, we commence an off-road 4×4 excursion to explore the vast desert including the nomadic families who still reside in the middle of nowhere, people who are well-known for their warm hospitality to tourists and strangers.
Next, visit the ancient Eyeliner Mines and experience the local Gnawa music and culture in the nearby Khamlia village, most of its inhabitants are from sub-Saharan countries such as Mali, Niger, and Sudan performing traditional music using unique instruments like the Djembe and guembri. Also, visit and stroll in Hassi Labied palm trees which provide excellent opportunities for photography.
Finally, we conclude the off-road excursion with a drive to the hotel in Merzouga
Day 4: Merzouga Desert - Midelt - Fes
After breakfast, we leave the incredible Sahara desert and head toward Rissani town which is the birthplace of the current Moroccan dynasty, the Alaouite, this town is famous for its lively market usually 3 days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday).
After that, pass through a town known for its fossil-rich areas, a variety of fossils, minerals, and local handicrafts, an ideal opportunity to learn about the geological history of the region.
Then, continue through the Ziz Valley and Middle Atlas Mountains on the way to Midelt known as the city of the apple. After lunch, we continue to visit the cedar forest of Michlifen, home to wild monkeys known as the Maquaques of Gibraltar, a free time to take some photos with the cute little monkeys.
Next, visit the lion landmark in Ifran, the meaning of Ifran is Caves and it is a small town well-known as the Switzerland of Morocco, thanks to its alpine-style houses and is listed as one of the cleanest cities in the world according to MBC Times.
